Cyberbully movie after school Thursday, May 19,2016
On May 19th, Mrs. Pedersen (Gurrie Social Worker), and the Gurrie Middle School Bully Prevention Club will be showing the movie Cyberbully. Cyberbully is ABC Family television movie rated PG-13 that tells the story of a teenage girl that was bullied online. It talks about the dangers that exist online, the social pressure on teens to partake in online relationships, and the emotional devastation that bullying inflicts on its victims and their families. This movie is very educational, but does touch on some sensitive topics including sexuality, depression, and the thought of suicide.
Many students at Gurrie have returned permission slips to watch this movie. The Cyberbully movie will be shown at Gurrie after school, May 19th from 3:15 and end at 5:00. A snack of pizza and water will be provided during the movie. It is important that your child stays the entire time for the movie and a brief discussion afterwards. The school will provide late busses for your child to take home. I would also encourage parents to have a discussion with their child and review internet safety. I have some information both on Cyberbullying and internet safety on my school website located at www.d105.net.
Please contact Mrs. Pedersen at Gurrie 708-482-2720 x1221 if you have any questions.
